PD Consultant to support 30 Anniversary IOM Switzerland
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM) in Bern and in close coordination with other colleagues supporting the implementation of activities.

A main activity will be an itinerant photoexhibition from Reuters photojournalist Darrin Zammit Lupi, and a website specifically created to accompany the exhibition as well as to provide context to other celebration activities (e.g. panels) of IOM Switzerland during 2024.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Support in curating/selecting the key milestones of the last 30 years of: migration events in Europe and neighborhood, the evolution of migration importance at geopolitical level, the EU migration and asylum acquis (for public consumption) in relation to Switzerland (JHA matters: Schengen Agreement, and Dublin), and the relevance of IOM´s changing role globally (e.g. outside and inside the UN) and IOM Switzerland path.
  2. Revise commonly identified list of relevant supporting documents, project websites, video materials, etc. in view of the development of IOM Switzerland 30th anniversary website and other supporting materials (brochures, posters, etc.).
  3. Drafting of an an engaging narrative around migration as described under point 1, for the purposes of the IOM Switzerland 30th anniversary photoexhibition description and the website, which expands the context experience for viewers via the use of a QR code.
  4. Support translation of texts from English into German, and French.
  5. Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Chief of Mission IOM Bern.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Political Science, International Politics, Social Sciences or a related field; or
  • University degree (Bachelor’s) in the above fields with 2 year of relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • Experience in researching and writing complex analytical documents on migration and asylum.
  • Experience working within the United Nations System, including IOM, is an assett.

 Skills

  • In depth knowledge of the broad range of migration and asylum issues and analytical sources in Europe
  • Knowledge of the United Nations System, including IOM.
  • Excellent communication skills to explain complex concepts and ideas in accesible way for general public, and to have personal (online) contact with interlocutors

Languages

For this position, working level German, English and French is required (oral and written).

Desirable: Italian
