On 5 September 2013, the Hungarian Ministry for Human Capacities recognised that AUB fulfilled the criteria of a “University of Excellence” and thus supported it for the time from 2013-16 in the framework of the Ministry's “Promotion of Excellence“. The status was renewed on 1 January 2017. AUB may thus present itself as a “University of National Excellence“.

With the “Promotion of Excellence“, the Ministry for Human Capacities recognises universities which

• can exhibit excellent results in instruction and research (in relation to the criteria of the national education strategy),
• play a special role in international (collegiate) cooperation,
• contribute especially to promoting international student mobility,
• show the potential to also become recognised internationally to have achieved the status of a “University of Excellence“.
