Andrássy Forum for Western Balkan Studies

The Andrássy Forum for Western Balkan Studies was established in 2014 at the Andrássy University Budapest (AUB) as an academic platform for research and cooperation with a focus on the Western Balkan region.

The objective is to bring together academics and experts from the four Visegrád countries (V4), from the German-speaking countries of Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Western Balkan countries to foster academic exchange and knowledge transfer.

The research activities of the forum focus on three main areas:

  • Firstly, issues in relation to the political transformation of the countries in the region and their progress in the EU-integration process are addressed.
  • Secondly, another focus is on the function of regional cooperation in the region of Central and Southeast Europe.
  • Thirdly, the socio-cultural, economic, and political specifics of the region, which are hindering democratization and consequently to EU-rapprochement are discussed.

The Andrássy Forum for Western Balkan Studies regularly organises lectures, workshops and conferences to foster the exchange of academics and experts.

Additionally, the forum is looking to establish teaching and research cooperation with partners in the region. The Andrássy Forum for Western Balkan Studies is welcoming colleagues and students with an interest in the region to get in contact. Additionally, the forum aims to increase the involvement of students with a research interest in the region.

The activities of the Andrássy Forum for Western Balkan Studies in 2014 were financed by the International Visegrád Fund and the Embassy of Federal Republic of Germany (Information on the Pilot-Project - https://www.andrassyuni.eu/projekt/pilot-projekt-andrassy-forum-for-western-balkan-studies-2014.html). Currently, the forum activities are financed by the Andrássy University Budapest and in the frame of other projects.
