Andrássy Gyula German Speaking University Budapest (Andrássy University Budapest, AUB) is despite German being its language of education and research a Hungarian private higher education institution, founded according to Hungarian law, with its seat exclusively in Hungary. It is maintained by the Hungarian Public Foundation for the German Language University in Budapest and is supported by five partner states (Hungary, Federal Republic of Germany, Free State of Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Republic of Austria).
Being a Hungarian university, AUB is accredited according to Hungarian law by the Hungarian Accreditation Committee (MAB), most recently in its decree MAB 2012/7/V/1. The university has also been listed as Hungarian institution of higher education in the registry of the Hungarian Educational Authority. Furthermore, all its study programmes are accredited according to Hungarian legal regulations. Therefore, AUB is not affected by the amendment of the National Higher Education Act adopted on 4 April 2017 by the Hungarian Parliament.
In 2013 the accreditation commission of the evaluation agency evalag (evaluation agency of Baden-Württemberg) has positively evaluated the internal quality assurance system in study and teaching at AUB based on its system accreditation criteria and accredited it until 2019. The evalag system accreditation refers exclusively to the internal quality assurance system of a higher education institution relating to its study and instruction. Based on this accreditation no diplomas according to German law may be issued.
Diplomas are issued exclusively in accordance with Hungarian legislation and Hungarian accreditation. Graduates therefore receive exclusively Hungarian diplomas; with the exception of double-degree study programmes offered at present together with the Universities of Passau and Leipzig, where the students receive an additional diploma from the partner universities besides the Hungarian diploma from AUB.
